Molly’s Suds: Effective on Clothes, Gentle on Skin
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

For MOMS, MOMS-TO-BE and NEWBORNS+

We all know how small and precious babies can be, but I think until you hold your own child for the first time, do you really understand and appreciate how truly helpless and totally reliant these little creations are. This experience will also make you think twice about everything you touch, have in your home, clean with, etc. since your overall mission quickly becomes keeping your newborn baby healthy and safe from the big and scary unknown world.

And while many of us may think about the “big” items in our homes and surrounding environment that may come in contact with our babies, including strangers and visitors, animals and pets, and household cleaners, it’s often the “little” things that can be the most potentially harmful – like our laundry detergent.

As a new parent will soon find out, there will be a never-ending pile of laundry when you have a little one. From the blankets they are swaddled in, to the ones that you use to clean up their spit-up, there is always some kind of washable disaster waiting to happen. And for this reason, the kind-of soap and cleaning supplies you use on your laundry can literally make for a good or bad day – depending on the sensitivity of your child’s skin, as well as the cleaning power it provides.

And that is why I have come to be such a huge fan of Molly’s Suds. Not only are their products super effective, they are also completely safe for the most sensitive of skins – whether that be your babies’ face, tush, or anywhere else for that matter.

THE PRODUCT: Molly’s Suds is a comprehensive laundry cleaning company that takes pride in providing safe and chemical-free products that are extremely effective. Coming about in a very unexpected way, Molly’s Suds was created after their daughter was born in 2005, but devastatingly, never took a breath. As a pediatric nurse and mother to three other healthy children, this was not just a tragedy, but also a huge shock.

Molly’s mother began to read everything she could about stillbirths and uncovered a disturbing fact: in the United States alone 80,000 chemicals were approved for use by the TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act), and yet only 200 of these toxins were tested for human safety. Each year this list of chemicals changes, meaning that we are exposed to more and more potentially harmful substances.

Moreover, there was a European study done that proves mothers pass chemicals to their babies via pregnancy and breast milk. Newborn baby cord blood and amniotic fluid had multiple non-natural toxins detected in it, and as many as 240 chemicals in cord blood have been found! More than 120 of the chemicals were from toxins in food, personal care, household and environmental products. Molly’s mom knew right then that their family had a responsibility to teach others about these toxins, and that they were destined to make a difference.

As consumers, we think about what we eat, but not about what we allow to touch our skin and how the ingredients can – and do – leach into our bloodstream! For example, detergent ingredients like ionic surfactants, are the most persistent in the environment and change the sex of our fish; Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE’s), which have been banned in Canada and Europe, imitate the hormone estrogen in our bodies which effect our health and fetal development. These chemicals are even found in our drinking water because they are not completely biodegradable. So the decision was made to create a Laundry Powder and other household products that are truly safe for humans. Molly’s little footprints are on their website and all of their packaging to remind you that their products are safe for even your tiniest family members.

Whether looking for a Laundry Powder, Whitener, or a cleanser for your Cloth Diapers, Molly’s Sud’s has something for you:

Laundry Powder Use just 1 tablespoon per load. As effective as conventional brands. More effective than natural brands. No harsh chemicals. No fillers. Nothing toxic or carcinogenic. Septic safe and safe for use in High Efficiency (HE) machines. Effective in cold and hot water. Safe and gentle for sensitive skin. You can order WITHOUT peppermint oil. Just make a note to us at checkout requesting NO peppermint. Just 5 earth-derived ingredients. No preservatives or GMO ingredients. Oxygen Whitener

Uses sodium per carbonate and other earth derived ingredients to aid in breaking down the hard water minerals and bringing back your whites! It is color safe, but test a small spot to be sure your fabric is compatible! Ways you can use the Whitener: o Use it alone as a long soak. o Add it to a carpet machine. o Add it to your regular wash as a booster. o Sprinkle in your toilets, let it sit and then give it a scrub! Cloth Diaper Powder

No harsh chemicals. No fillers. No essential oils. No enzymes. No fragrance, ever. Septic safe and safe for use in High Efficiency (HE) machines. No preservatives or GMO ingredients. Nothing toxic or carcinogenic. As effective as conventional brands. Safe and gentle for sensitive skin. Brightens and removes stains naturally. Gluten Free. Nut Free.

HEALTH-WISE: Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder was formulated with a “no compromise” attitude and uses only the purest of ingredients. All of their products and suppliers are Certified Cruelty Free by Leaping Bunny and their ingredients are all Certified Vegan. They are also free of preservatives and non-GMO.

Their powders are also phthalate and fragrance free, although they do use wild crafted organic peppermint oil as a fresh take on scent! It is safe for use in food preparation and only a very small amount is used per large batch. (However, you can order your products without the peppermint oil if you prefer, just make a note with your order).

Moreover, their sea salt and epsom salts are triple filtered in the USA and certified contaminant free, and both are certified safe for use in organic formulations. Their baking soda is aluminum free and is also food grade.

However, please note that while their ingredients are food grade, their cleaners are NOT edible or safe to eat, and one should use common sense when there are children in the home.

And while most detergent companies use sodium carbonates that are synthetically processed with trona, glass and manmade chemicals and then sold for laundry and industrial use, it is harsh, unclean and cheap. While there is sodium carbonate in Molly’s Sud’s powder, it is not synthetically processed. They use a sustainable trona source located in the Green River Basin in Wyoming, ensuring that their sodium carbonate is safe for use in medicinal and food ingredients.

WHERE TO BUY: Molly’s Suds are available at their Online Store, or if you prefer to buy them in person, you can use their Store Locator to find the retail location nearest you.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The skin is the largest organ of our body and is the most susceptible to outside chemicals and toxins, although many of us tend to forget this. We often wonder why so many of us have skin issues these days, or why infertility and fetal demise are on the rise…

Making little changes, like the soaps and cleaners we use, really can make a difference in our own health, as well as in the health of our loved ones. And that is why I have come to be such a huge fan of Molly’s Suds. Not only does their story touch my heart, their cause is one that can affect us all. Plus, their products work great and have made it such an easy choice to use them over other chemical-laden cleaners.

Try any or all of Molly’s Suds today and see how clean [and chemical free] your laundry can be.
