For MOMS, MOMS-TO-BE and TODDLERS 10 MONTHS+
So honestly, how many of us grew up eating peanut butter and jelly?? I mean, unless you had a peanut allergy (and then may have substituted almond butter, etc.) you were probably given a PB&J at least 2-3x per week, if not more. Even my 30+ year old husband still prefers that I pack them for him in his [work] lunch pretty much every day…
And how many of you give these nostalgic sandwiches to your little ones? Maybe you trade out the white bread for gluten-free, and the peanut butter for almond butter or sunflower butter – because we all want to try to feed our kids a bit healthier – but all in all, it’s still a PB&J.
However, the one component that really hasn’t changed much is the jelly. Yes, you may use organic, but it’s still jelly. But what if even that element could be given a healthy boost too? Would you be all the more willing to feed these sandwiches that “never get old” to your little ones even more frequently?
If so, then you’ve got to try the Fruit Spreads available from World of Chia! Filled with chia seeds and oh-so-tasty, these jellies will add an unnoticed nutritional boost to your child’s favorite meal.
(You can also sprinkle on some of my new Organic, whole foods Super Powders for an additional fiber, protein, and antioxidant boost – COMING SOON – so stay posted 😉
THE PRODUCT: World of Chia has made chia seeds their business – literally! By not only using these nutritional little powerhouses as an extra ingredient to put on their product labels, but as a food that has a purpose, all of World of Chia products are not only good for you, they are absolutely delicious!
Unlike traditional jams and jellies that use pectin in order to thicken up the fruit, making it spreadable, World of Chia takes advantage of the mucilage that covers the chia seed (which reacts on contact with water, expanding 10 – 15 times its volume), giving it the same great consistency without any of the unnatural, industrialized ingredients. Plus, chia seeds have a high content of omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, minerals and antioxidants, making it all the more nutritiously balanced – as opposed to your typical sugar-laden, nutrition-less jellies you’ll find on store shelves.
Made with only 4 ingredients, including: Fruit, Agave Syrup, Chia Seeds and Lemon Juice, you will not find any added pectins, acids, or sugar cane. Plus, all of their products are all-natural, vegan, gluten free, and free of preservatives, colorants, additives and flavorings.
Available in Strawberry, Raspberry and Blackberry, these Chia-based spreads are sure to please any palate.
NUTRITION-WISE: Currently touted as the new superfood, chia is gaining a tremendous amount of attention in the press. From Dr. Oz to your local health food store, it seems that everyone is promoting the benefits of chia seeds.
Originating in the central valley of Mexico, as the popularity of chia seeds has grown, so have the regions where it is cultivated, including: Guatemala, Australia, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
For centuries, chia was used as a staple food by native peoples throughout Mexico and the southwest. Known for its ability to boost energy and endurance, it is believed that Aztec warriors would subsist solely on chia seeds during important conquests. According to Jesuit historians, the chia plant was considered to be one of the most important crops grown by the Aztecs, coming in third only behind maize and beans.
However, in the modern world, chia has been primarily know for its fun and innovative way to grow “hair” on pet-shaped plants. However, chia seeds are [obviously] much more beneficial than that. Chock full of healthy Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, minerals and antioxidants, they can not only aid in weight loss, but help lower cholesterol and one’s risk for Type-2 Diabetes, as well.
WHERE TO BUY: World of Chia’s Fruit Spreads are available on their Online Store. Or if you prefer to buy them in person, they are available at the following locations: Wegmans (Northeast), Fred Meyer (Northwest), Zupans (Northwest), Wholefoods (Texas, Oklahoma, Lousiana), Akins (Oklahoma), Bed, Bath and Beyond (Northeast), Central Market (Texas), Costco (Southeast), Kroger (Texas), and King Soopers (Colorado).
FINAL THOUGHTS: Turning traditional foods into healthier foods is what I’m all about! I mean, that’s why I started cooking in the first place and is why I began creating my Super Powders, and even started this blog! It’s also why I love discovering companies like World of Chia. Not only do they make an every day food that tastes great, they also put a healthy spin on it by adding chia seeds – and by cutting out any processed, unnatural ingredients.
The only thing I will say is that I wish that their products were Organic. Berries tend to be loaded in pesticides and other chemicals, which unfortunately don’t rinse off well (because of their delicate skin), and therefore seep into them. The only way to [almost] guarantee that your berries and/or berry products don’t contain any of these unhealthy additions is to buy Organic. I am especially conscientious of this fact when it comes to my little one, (and to myself when I am pregnant or breastfeeding).
So, here’s to hoping that World of Chia starts making their Fruit Spreads with Organic berries really soon, because I will definitely be coming back for more!
