Around 35% of families intend to take a vacation together this year, and if you’re one of them, where do you plan to go? Asia is a great destination for families looking for an adventure. It is the world’s largest continent and covers every type of family holiday, even for those families traveling with young children. Southeast Asia, in particular, is a popular destination for families, offering plenty to see and do, such as spectacular beaches, mountain ranges, and extreme adventures. Traveling with young children isn’t always easy, but there are ways to ensure you all have a wonderful Southeast Asia vacation.
Flying to Southeast Asia with Children
If you’re a frequent traveler, using your air miles can help keep costs down, but flying with young children can be a very different experience. Make sure you’ve informed your airline that you will be flying with young children. Airlines these days are a lot more accommodating for families, especially when it comes to people traveling with young children or babies. Some travel agencies specialize in organizing family-friendly trips that are fun for parents and children. Some travel agencies can also help you with child seats and arrange family-friendly accommodations while you are in Southeast Asia. In fact, one of the best places I’ve heard to visit is the Thailand Nomads.
Be Well-Prepared Before You Travel
Before you start planning what you will be doing when you land in Southeast Asia, it’s important that you ensure you all have your vaccinations within enough time of leaving on your trip. It’s also worth checking in with your doctor before you travel to get advice on your and your family’s health. Your doctor can advise you on what illnesses you may need to be aware of. You should check that you have appropriate insurance that covers your whole family. Booking your accommodation makes things much easier when you are traveling with children. You can use online review sites to get a good picture of whether accommodation is suitable and family-friendly.
Pack Light for Your Trip (But Take Plenty of Diapers)
Don’t underestimate how hot it will be in Southeast Asia. You won’t need sweaters, coats or long pants. Instead pack light, comfortable, and loose-fitting clothes that will help you to stay cool and protect you from the very hot sun. If your children are still in diapers, then you will need to make sure you pack a lot of them in your luggage. You won’t find many available when you get there unless of course, you are staying in a city or a major town. If you generally only use reusable diapers and avoid disposable ones, then you may find this difficult when you are out there. Be prepared to have to compromise and use disposable diapers instead.
Southeast Asia is a wonderful place to visit with your family. Your children will simply love exploring the jungle, or taking part in a mountain adventure. The beaches are absolutely stunning too. But while it may not always be the easiest destination to bring young children to, with a little preparation, you can look forward to a fantastic and stress-free family vacation.
