Finding a bar that tastes good is one thing, but finding a bar that is truly good for you and that will actually replace a meal is a whole other thing. Most “nutritional” bars really aren’t that nutritional at all, and are in fact filled with a whole bunch of unnecessary fillers, flavors, and preservatives that should hardly be considered healthy.
Now add to it the “Organic” label and its even harder to decipher if the bar is really good for you or not. I mean, Organic automatically means healthy doesn’t it?!
Not really. In fact, while many Organic products are more nutritious than their counterparts (since they are required to be free of chemicals, pesticides, certain preservatives, etc.), they still can contain a whole plethora of ingredients that are anything but healthy. This is especially true if the product isn’t 100% Organic but only contains certain organic ingredients.
That’s why I love products like Organic Food Bar. Not only are they made with 100% organic ingredients, they are also made with 100% real food – not any synthetic USP vitamin supplements like many other bars will often contain.
THE PRODUCT: Organic Food Bar is called that for a reason: it is made with 100% organic ingredients, all of which are 100% real foods. Focusing on three simple things, including their people, product and customers, Organic Food Bar is a tightly-knit family who deeply believes in the vision of their company – which is to make the best food bars in the world out of the highest quality ingredients.
Traveling the world in order to source the finest ingredients, which are then handcrafted each day into all of the Organic Food Bar products, you can truly taste the difference in these foods. Literally whipping up a fresh batch each morning, Organic Food Bar products are then immediately packaged to lock in that one-of-a-kind, fresh-made taste.
Certified Organic and Kosher, all of the Organic Food Bar ingredients are purchased fresh every month and then made in their SOLAR powered facility that is also GMP, Organic, Gluten Free and Kosher certified. All of their products are now Non-GMO Project Verified as well.
Available in 10 delicious flavors ranging from Chocolate Covered Active Greens to Wild Blueberry and even Vegan (it doesn’t contain honey like some of the other varieties do), you are sure to find a bar that will fill you up and satisfy your cravings.
NUTRITION-WISE: Made with 100% Organic ingredients, all of which are real foods, the Organic Food Bar is also gluten-free, Kosher, and non-GMO Project Verified. Plus, all of their foods are made fresh in their own facility that processes no Peanuts, Wheat, Gluten, Dairy or Soy.
Furthermore, all of the Organic Food Bars are cold processed, meaning they are not baked and none of the ingredients are heated over 118 F. Because of this, Organic Food Bar is alkaline-forming, high in vitamin and enzyme content, and easily digested. This is all important because the American diet tends to be highly acidic. In other words, when you eat foods high in sugar or consume alcoholic beverages, it has an “acidifying effect” on your blood. This may suppress immune system function, precipitate ailments such as osteoporosis and make your body susceptible to diseases. By eating more “alkaline-producing foods,” such as wild salmon, apples — or Organic Food Bar products — you will balance the ph in your blood, which gives a tremendously positive impact on your overall health.
Coming in at around 300-320 calories per bar, 120-140 of which are from healthy fats, you will also find 8-14 grams of protein, 6-8 grams of fiber, and 20-23 grams of sugar per serving depending on the flavor you choose.
And while the calorie count of these bars may seem higher than many other bars you will find, that is because these bars are made with whole foods and made to “replace” whole foods (aka, a meal). Yes, you can snack on one of these bars, but I probably wouldn’t suggest eating the whole thing as a snack, because the calories will add up pretty quickly.
However, I will say that I am a bit hesitant in eating a product that contains so much sugar. Americans, in general, consume way more sugar than a normal person should. From cookies to candy, to things like ketchup and salad dressings, there is added sugars in pretty much every packaged food you can get your hands on.
Sugar consumption itself has become a disease. Over-consumption can lead to hypoglycemia, diabetes, heart disease, and chronic tiredness. Balancing your blood sugar is an important part of regaining energy and health. Excess sugar consumption is one of the major causes for fatigue. Not only is sugar a major culprit, the consumption of refined carbohydrates that quickly turn to sugar in our blood is equally damaging.
And while the sugars in Organic Food Bar all come from whole food ingredients that contain naturally occurring organic sugars that are “slow-release” from things like organic dates, organic Cassava (Tapioca), organic berries, and organic raisins, eating 20 or more grams in one serving is still quite a lot.
*Organic Food Bars are a delicious and nutritious meal-replacement – or even a good snack (if you aren’t planning on eating the whole thing). However, as mentioned above, they do contain quite a lot of sugar, which is why I wouldn’t recommend them for young children (unless giving them a couple bites here and there).
And I normally wouldn’t recommend eating that much sugar in one sitting for anybody, but since it is all-natural and slow-releasing (meaning that it won’t raise your blood sugar levels like other sugars will), then I feel good in saying that these bars are great for both pregnant and nursing moms, as well as all of us who just want a quick and delicious meal on-the-go. Plus, the fact that they are filled with so many other good-for-you ingredients, including fiber, protein, vitamins and antioxidants, giving your little one a piece or two won’t do any harm – and is actually way better than the majority of snacks that are on store shelves.
WHERE TO BUY: Organic Food Bars are available at fine health, grocery and specialty stores in the U.S. and in 20 countries worldwide — from Germany, Austria and Denmark to Romania, Singapore and New Zeleand. They can also be purchased directly through their website. To find the retail location nearest you, please visit their Store Locator.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Organic Food Bars are nutrient-dense whole food bars that are not only good for you, they taste good too. Filled with protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and available in 10 different flavors, you are sure to find [at least] one that satisfies both your cravings and your hunger.
And while they do contain quite a bit more sugar then I would generally care to recommend someone eating in a single serving, the fact that the sugars are slow-releasing and won’t affect blood sugar like the majority of sweet things do, plus the fact that they are filled with so many other good-for-you ingredients, make these bars a go-to when I am looking for a quick and nutritious fill-me-up, or just want a couple bites of a healthy and delicious snack. (And I must admit, that happens a lot when caring Baby #2 around ;).
