FOR TODDLERS 1+, MOMS & MOMS-TO-BE
When a company boasts of being low-carb, I don’t generally think of it as an enticing label. This isn’t because I don’t care about my carb intake, I do, I just tend to associate the phrase with tough and cardboard-like, neither of which are things I want to use to describe my food. Gluten-free foods have also gotten the same bad-rap; foods that are tasteless and really not that appealing.
However, both low carb and gluten-free foods don’t just refer to breads and baked goods, but even spreads and dessert foods have taken on this label – especially since the whole Paleo craze has hit epic proportions. Thankfully, companies have really started to take note and have begun making “healthy” foods taste just as good, if not even better than the foods they are trying to imitate.
GoLo Foods is one of these companies and has turned both flatbreads and “chocolaty” hazelnut spread into foods that are both healthy, delicious, and down-right addicting.
THE PRODUCT: GoLo Foods is a company that has put a “uniquely modern” twist on low-carb foods. From flatbreads to hazelnut spread, these products are not only good for you, they are amazingly delicious as well.
GoLo’s Flatbread is the perfect substitute for your high-carb pizza crust or even a sandwich wrap. Gluten-free and low in carbs, it has the perfect doughy texture, and will give you all the satisfaction, minus all the guilt.
Their Dark Hazelnut Spread is another perfect “substitute” food; it is the nutritious answer to the popular Nutella spread. Packed with fiber and completely sugar free, this surprisingly rich spread is great on toast, but possibly even better eaten straight with a spoon.
NUTRITION-WISE: GoLo’s Flatbreads and Dark Hazelnut Spread are not only low in carbs, they are also gluten-free and non-GMO. Moreover, the flatbread has only 95 calories per serving, 50 of which are from fat, 3% carbohydrates (which is virtually nothing!), 5 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and only 1 gram of sugar.
The Dark Hazelnut Spread has a pretty great nutritional make-up as well. With only 65 calories per 1 Tbs. serving, 55 of which come from fat, it has a whopping 5.5 grams of fiber – thanks to the addition of chicory – and is completely sugar-free! It is also dairy free, Paleo, Vegan, low sodium, Kosher, and has only 1 net carb per two tablespoons. (Now compare that to Nutella and tell me you won’t at least give it a try!)

FINAL THOUGHTS: Having first tried GoLo’s Dark Hazelnut Spread, I was immediately hooked. Before refrigerating it the product is velvety and smooth, like a creamy peanut butter, but with a rich, dark and intense bite. However, once you chill it, the spread becomes pretty hard – which is a good thing because otherwise I would have probably eaten it all in one sitting! Extremely rich and decadent, but with 0 grams of sugar, I love the fact that this spread is also high in fiber making me feel like I actually need to eat it.
I was also really impressed when I finally got the chance to try their Flatbread as well. With a doughy texture, like it was just pulled out of the oven, I would have never guessed that these are low carb, gluten and dairy free, and contain only 95 calories per serving. I personally used them like a veggie flatbread with hummus, but they would also be great in place of pizza dough, or even a sandwich wrap.
GoLo Foods has truly done an outstanding job in making healthy substitutes for commonly unhealthy, every day foods. With their delicious gluten-free flatbread and tasty Dark Hazelnut Spread, I am anxious to see what other products they are going to come up with.
