Tip #1 – Find a Convenient Home Base
When skiing in a place like Courchevel, one needs to find a place to come back to, to warm up, to store all the gear and unwind for the day. What better place than Courchevel ski chalets. This isn’t just a hotel or even a hired lodge room. These are beautiful, luxury chalets with privacy and convenience in mind. Luxurious furnishings will make a cosy snowing evening by the fire with the family and a hot chocolate feel so special. A bit sore after skiing for the first time this year? The private steam room and sauna will get you ready for tomorrow. With enough bedrooms for the whole family this is the spot to call home.
Tip #2 – Give Your Kid the Essentials
Be sure your little one is ready to make the most of this exciting day on the slope. Pack their pockets with essentials that will prepare and comfort them. Some tissues for the sudden runny nose. Sunscreen to reapply often. Don’t forget a snack in case they get hungry out there. The most important is to include a tag or a paper in their pocket with your name and contact details, in case they get lost or the instructor needs to contact you. Another good idea is to add a tag to items like overcoat, gloves, hat, and scarf, to prevent them ending up in the lost and found.
Tip #3 – Keep the Youngsters Warm
Studies have shown that children are less sensitive to the cold than adults. However it affects them more as they have not fully developed yet. They have lower levels of subcutaneous fat that usually develops closer to adulthood.
If you have ever tried to get a child to wear something they don’t want to, it’s a losing battle. So just ignore the whiners and keep them warm for their own good.
Tip #4 – Don’t Worry, Let Them Have Fun
Whether you are skiing with them on a more challenging slope or staying home during their lesson. Don’t worry, enjoy yourself instead. They are in good hands. If they are older and have had some training, let them go by themselves to experiment and play.
If they are younger and with an instructor, trust that your children are in good hands! These instructors are certified and trained to a high standard.
Tip #5 – Get to the Lesson Early On Day One
It could be crowded and quite busy with traffic and families trying to find the right spot, and instructor. To help alleviate delays, arrive early and be patient. It can be a challenge to quickly wrangle a hundred children into the correct classes, get them fitted for gear, and out on the slopes, even with years of experience, first days are always hectic.
Be sure to have had a hearty meal beforehand. Nothing is worse than performing a mental and physically strenuous task while hungry. Your child and instructor will be happier for it.
It goes without saying but since we just ate, be sure to take that last visit to the loo before lessons begin.
