Have you been facing some respiratory issues lately? Do you wish to switch from drugs to other more beneficial alternatives? Worry no more! It is time for you to learn about the therapy of hyperbaric oxygen in London and give it a try.

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Therapy of hyperbaric oxygen is a treatment that involves breathing the purest form of oxygen in a pressurized environment. This hyperbaric oxygen treatment is specifically designed for curing decompression sickness which is a risk of scuba diving. However, there are other conditions that can be successfully treated with the therapy, including:

  • Chronic infections,
  • Air bubbles in your vessels of blood
  • wounds that are not healing due to diabetes
  • Severe anemia
  • Brain abscess
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Radiation injury
  • Skin graft or skin flap at risk of tissue death
  • Vision loss, sudden and painless
  • Deafness, sudden

These issues occur when the body’s tissues get an inadequate supply of oxygen to operate and heal appropriately. Furthermore, when tissue or any other body region is injured, it requires an additional amount of pure oxygen to accelerate the healing process. Therapy of hyperbaric oxygen increases the amount of oxygen carried in the blood to every part of the body. Under the pressurized conditions during the therapy, air pressure is increased multiple times higher than normal air pressure. This leads to your lungs gathering a sufficient amount of oxygen compared to breathing pure oxygen at normal pressure. The adequate supply of the purest form of oxygen fights bacteria and stimulates the release of growth factors and stem cells, promoting the healing process.

What Are the Potential Risks Involved with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe procedure carried out by expert professionals in a safe environment. Although the occurrence of complications is rare, some individuals who are already suffering from certain illnesses may be at risk. Here are the rare yet potential complications of therapy of hyperbaric oxygen in London:

  • Nearsightedness for a short while, which is caused due to temporary changes in the eye lens.
  • Collapsing of lungs due to dramatic changes in air pressure.
  • Seizures due to increased pressure in the central nervous system.
  • Middle ear injuries like eardrum rupture or leaking fluid.
  • Decreased blood sugar in individuals having diabetes.

How Do You Prepare for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

To prepare for therapy of hyperbaric oxygen, the hospital will provide hospital-approved gowns or scrubs to wear in place of regular clothing for the therapy session. In addition, all the inflammable and other items like battery-powered devices that generate heat will be taken away to keep outside the oxygen chamber. Women may also be required to remove the petroleum-based hair and skincare products that may otherwise catch fire.

During the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the individual is instructed to lie down inside the chamber filled with pressurized oxygen. Depending on the number of sessions the patient has taken, the time inside the chamber varies accordingly.

In order to successfully undergo the comprehensive treatment plan of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, it is advisable to get in touch with a reputable healthcare facility and initiate the healing process within no time.
