THE COMPANY: When it comes to Humm, their family has been brewing kombucha for over 20 years; a tradition passed down from a mother to a son, from that son to his wife, from that wife to her best friend. From there, Jamie and Michelle set out to make the tastiest kombucha ever, to make it affordable to everyone, and then to offer it in bulk to minimize environmental impact.
And so it began…
What all started from batches brewed in their kitchen and then delivered in gallon jugs door-to-door, Humm Kombucha as grown to house an automated brewery and become one of the largest producers of draft kombucha in the US. At Humm, they believe it is their calling to care for their community and spread health, love and joy to all things they touch – and in my opinion, they are doing a great job at it!
THE PRODUCT: As you probably know by now, kombucha (kom-boo-cha) is a fermented tea that boasts a legendary reputation for promoting wellness, dating back thousands of years in both Eastern Europe and Asia. Unlike sugared teas and soda, kombucha is lighter and has a clean, refreshing taste and finish. It is often described as light, refreshing, effervescent, slightly sweet and subtly tart. And while there are many (many!) different brands and flavors on store shelves these days, Humm has really done a great job at creating delicious flavors that taste more like fruity tea with a hint of effervescence, in comparison to your traditional, slightly vinegary kombucha. Available in 9 delicious flavors ranging from Apple Sass and Blueberry Mint to Coconut Lime and Lemon Ginger, it is their use of fruit and spice that truly helps Humm stand out from competitors.
Another big differential with Humm is their tasting room and on-tap offerings at their Bend, Oregon location. They even offer their beverages in Kegs and in refillable growlers, something I haven’t seen with other brands – but love the idea of!
NUTRITION-WISE: Humm Kombucha is USDA Certified Organic and is also Gluten-free. Moreover, like all Kombucha, Humm hosts a whole list of benefits, ranging from its ability to energize to helping your body cleanse and detoxify. Thanks to the naturally occurring acids that are known to promote health and boost vitality (including: gluconic, lactic and acetic acids, among others), kombucha really is as good for you as they say!

There are a random few people who have been known to have a bad reaction to it, and therefore it is best to only drink it if you know you will not have any reactions. FINAL THOUGHTS: There’s no denying that I’m a big fan of kombucha. From the way it tastes (yes, I do really like it!), to the way it makes me feel, kombucha is one of those products that I pretty much have every single day. Even while pregnant*, this sparkling, fermented tea can do wonders for your health.
And it’s not just me that feels this way. Over the past few years, the popularity of these ancient “wonder drinks” has exploded. Once only being available at specialty health food stores, even your local supermarket now sells kombucha, with new companies and vendors popping up all over the place.
So how can you differentiate one brand from the other? I would say that taste really is key – just like people prefer one type of beer or soda over the other, the same can be said for kombucha. And for me, Humm is definitely one of my favs!
With a fruity tea-like taste and a slight effervescence, Humm Kombucha is great over ice or straight out of the fridge and is perfect for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, as a midday pick-me-up, or as an alternative to a nice icy cocktail – especially while pregnant ;).
