Habitall – An Alternative to Sugar that You Can Actually Use 1-for-1
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FOR MOMS, MOMS-TO-BE & TODDLERS* +

As more and more of us have come to realize, eating sugar and all of the products that are made with it really isn’t the best thing for us. In fact, too much sugar in our diets will not only affect [the obvious] health of our teeth and fit of our pants, it can also negatively affect our skin, sleeping habits, digestive system, and cases of headaches, just to name a few.

And while there are more and more sugar substitutes on the market besides just the chemical-laden “pink, blue, and yellow” packs, none of these can actually be used exactly like sugar can. Especially when it comes to baking, nothing quite works as well, or tastes as good, as old-fashioned sugar does, and therefore, many of our home-baked treats are still filled with it.

That is until Habitall entered the market and made their “sugar” concoction that not only tastes like sugar and measures exactly like sugar, it is good for you too!

THE PRODUCT: Habitall is the perfect combination of low calorie ingredients that make the need for sugar a thing of the past. Unlike other sweeteners, Habitall has no bitter after taste. Plus, it has superb baking and cooking functionality allowing it to brown and caramelize just like sugar. Best of all, if your recipe calls for one cup of sugar, you can simply replace it with one cup of Habitall!

A few years before Habit Foods was born, Michelle Francis was diagnosed with many food sensitivities including wheat, eggs and milk, to name a few. Realizing that eliminating processed, refined, and allergy causing foods would play a huge role in the way she was feeling, her and Corey Winer began to look for high quality products to help make the transition to a healthier way of eating. However, with very few on the market, they began to create their own recipes.

While trying to avoid any foods that caused inflammation or spikes in blood sugar, they realized that these are the products the market was lacking. And so, after years of sugar-free and allergy-free cooking trials, they brought their favorite family recipes together and created Habit Foods and their new sugar alternative, Habitall.

There are three all natural ingredients in Habitall: erythritol, polydextrose, and monk fruit. Erythritol is a naturally occurring sweetener found in some foods, including pears, grapes, and watermelon. Polydextrose is a soluble, prebiotic fiber. Monk fruit is a small round green fruit grown in China and northern Thailand, and is 300 times sweeter than sugar.

NUTRITION-WISE: Habitall is the only all-natural, zero calorie, zero glycemic sweetener on the market that measures and tastes like sugar. Habitall is not only low calorie, at 0.34 calories per gram (or 1.7 calories per tsp.), but its ingredients help maintain digestive and oral health, and may even aid in balancing blood sugar levels.

As mentioned, there are three all-natural ingredients in Habitall: erythritol, polydextrose, and monk fruit.

Erythritol: a naturally occurring sweetener found in common foods such as fruit, vegetables, and fermented foods. Derived from sugar using a natural fermentation process (with no sugar actually remaining), it is nature’s zero calorie sweetener. Erythritol does not raise blood sugar and is considered safe for people with diabetes because it does not raise plasma glucose or insulin levels. It is also resistant to metabolism by oral bacteria, and therefore, does not cause tooth decay. Polydextrose: an indigestible, soluble fiber (like beans, legumes, vegetables, and whole grains), produced from the naturally occurring components glucose, sorbitol and citric acid. Studies have shown that it is a prebiotic and supports the proliferation of good bacteria in the gut, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which in turn helps to maintain the immune system and good digestive health.

Monk Fruit or Lo Han Guo: a vine fruit grown on steep forested mountains in small family orchards in China and northern Thailand. Hand picked, juiced, and dehydrated at the peak of ripeness, Monk Fruit is 300 times sweeter than sugar. According to legend, Monk Fruit is named after the Buddhist monks who first cultivated it in the 13th century. Ever since, it has been treasured for its low-calorie sweetness, and health giving powers. Monk Fruit is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat diabetes and obesity. Monk Fruit is also called longevity fruit because the region where it is cultivated has the most centenarians (100+ year old individuals) per capita.

WHERE TO BUY: Habitall can best be purchased via their Online Store.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I’ll admit that I have been a sucker for trying “sugar alternatives”. From my bouts with Splenda (until I learned how bad it actually was for me!), to my use of Stevia, I have pretty much tried every new “healthier alternative to sugar” on the market. And while the majority of them leave a lot to be desired, Habitall is the only one I have currently found that not only tastes great, it can literally be swapped 1-for-1 with sugar.

From muffins to cookies, to any other recipe you can think of, Habitall really is nature’s nutritional answer to good old-fashioned sugar.

Try Habitall for yourself and see how easy it is to make all of your at-home treats a whole lot healthier.
