Four Tips To Protect Your Back

how to support your back

As you are well aware, your back and spinal cord hold up your body and when it’s damaged, it can really affect mobility, not to mention the pain factor when you have a misaligned back that hasn’t been fixed. In fact, the daily pain for some can be debilitating which is why it’s important to do what you can to help prevent any damage from happening to your back in the first place. With that being said, here are four tips to look after your back.

Invest in the Right Office Chair

First off, it’s good to start off with the basics and a lot of your posture and support to your back can come from sitting correctly in your office chair. However, you could have great posture but if the chair you have doesn’t align properly or support your back and neck appropriately it won’t matter. This is why it’s always worth investing in the right office chair when working from home.

If you work in an office environment for a company and you don’t have the right chair, legally you should be provided with the right ergonomic chair. Ask for a workstation assessment with HR and they should provide you with the ability to make any changes needed to help with your posture and bodily support.

Use the Correct Lifting Methods

Although there are options out there to help with back pain like seeing a chiropractor, taking medication, or getting surgery, it’s good to try and prevent any damage to your back before it gets that far. One of the ways in which you can do this is by using the correct lifting methods. Many people will wrongly lift heavy objects without using the method of squatting down with your back straight, rather than hunched over.

You should also make sure to not lift anything that’s too heavy because that could also do permanent damage to your back.

Sleep Positions

Sleep positions are important because there’s one method, which is sleeping on your back, that can help improve your spinal health. Sleeping on your side may be more comfortable, but if you’re trying to improve the health of your back, then sleeping on your back is going to be more effective. Obviously, it’s hard to control what you do in your sleep but if you try to do more relaxing this way and then end up dozing off on your back it might eventually manipulate your brain to stay there or revert back to lying on your back when sleeping.

Strengthen Core Muscles

Core muscles are something that are really important since muscles, in general, provide support for the joints and bones. When you look after your back and do regular exercises and correct your posture, this all helps with your back’s core muscles. By doing all this, you’re likely to provide your back with more protection as a result.

Looking after your back is important so try the best you can to do what’s possible to protect your body from further damage. Hopefully, you can minimize the risks with these tips and advice. You’ll thank yourself later on in life – trust me on that one!
