The Dangers of Over-Training

dangers of over training

If you are someone who likes to keep fit and healthy, then you probably have some kind of training routine that you like to follow. This is one of the best things you can do in terms of leading a full and healthy life. But did you know it’s also possible to over-train?! In fact, this can cause more harm than good. It’s important to be aware of the signs of overtraining, as well as to know why it is such a bad idea. Here’s a look at those reasons so you can prevent it from happening to you!

Elevated Resting Heart Rate

One of the clear signs to look out for is an elevated heart rate when resting. Of course, for a time, you are going to find that your heart rate is higher after the workout. But if your heart rate remains a little higher than normal during rest hours, that means you have overworked yourself. If this happens, cool off for a few days or even a week and get back to normal. The last thing you want is to put excess strain on your heart. It’s useful to know what your normal resting heart rate is first of all, of course.

Pain

Of course, if you ever experience pain in a training session, you know that you have pushed yourself too far. Pain is quite simply your body’s signal that something is wrong, so you should be careful to pay attention to it and not to overlook it. Even if you sometimes feel tempted to ignore it because you think it can’t be anything major, you should try to avoid that irresponsible excuse. Sometimes you can carry on with light training if you have a pain that you can cater for, such as getting the best running shoes for metatarsalgia pain. But usually, you should rest and allow your body to heal.

Chronic Fatigue

Sometimes you can get some pretty serious conditions from overtraining which can take a long time to recover from. One such condition is chronic fatigue. This is essentially a feeling where you are always tired, no matter what you do to try and improve it. This is a very clear and powerful sign that it is time to cool it on the workout front for a good period of time. That can be disappointing, but it is much more important that you simply take care of your body.

Stress

Believe it or not, working out too much can also stress you out. If you are feeling constantly on edge and you are not sure why you might want to check whether you are training too much. In particular, doing too much weight training can often make people feel this way, and it could be a sign that you need to go slightly easier on yourself during the workout, as well as reducing the number of sessions you have overall. There is no use in trying to be healthy if it is just stressing you out.
