Tips to Keep Your Skin Young and Beautiful

In this day and age, we are bombarded with filters, fillers, and other trends on social media which can affect our relationship with our appearance. The truth is, despite what most beauty gurus tell you online, you don’t need to spend copious amounts of money to keep your skin looking gorgeous and healthy. While you can always resort to the newest treatments if you can afford them, if you can’t, you still have options! Here are some easy, simple tips you can do today to keep your skin looking young and beautiful.

Get At Least 7 Hours of Sleep a Night

Some of us would prefer to get up to 9 hours of sleep, but since that’s not always possible with how busy the world has gotten, 7 should suffice. You need at least 7 hours of sleep to give your skin time to regenerate throughout the night. This also slows the formation of wrinkles and can reduce the appearance of dark circles under your eyes. Sufficient sleep also improves your overall health which will undoubtedly show on your skin.

Have a Simple Morning and Night Routine

A morning and night routine is a must for various reasons. For starters, how we start the day dictates how well it will go. Taking the time to meditate, reduce stress, and just give yourself time to wake up naturally in the morning can have a big impact on your skin’s health – the same applies when getting ready for bed.

You can also use this time to start face yoga, which is a natural alternative to botox to tighten your skin and wake up the muscles. This can be accomplished by hand or with a facial tool like a derma roller, to help improve the appearance of your chin, jawline, and frown lines. With a pro tool, however, you can also combat hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. You should also implement a simple morning and night skincare routine with the right products that include the following ingredients, or better yet, natural alternatives:

  • AHAs
  • BHAs
  • Vitamin C
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Niacinamide
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Lactic Acid

Introduce Antioxidants Into Your Life

As mentioned above, stress has a negative impact on your health which consequently affects your skin’s health. Oxidative stress has an even bigger impact on your overall well-being. The best way to reduce oxidative stress is to include antioxidants in your skincare and diet. For your diet, you can add antioxidants by eating vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and herbs. For a topical alternative, antioxidants can be found in retinol and treatments with vitamin C and E.

Never Skip Moisturizer

Moisturizer reduces more skin problems than it is given credit for and must become part of your morning and nighttime skincare routine. Moisturizer is essential to the skin; whether you have dry or oily skin, you must use daily face moisturizer that is appropriate for you. It also reduces the risk of acne and can conceal skin blemishes.

Use a Scrub Weekly

It’s not good to use a scrub every day, but one to three times a week should suffice – especially if you live in a hot climate. Scrubbing away dead skin cells has many benefits such as allowing your skin to retain more moisture, unclog pores, and preventing ingrown hairs.

Use Retinols

Retinol is a great addition to your skincare routine because of its multiple benefits. It combats conditions like acne and pigmentation, can reduce any skin damage due to sun exposure, and help delay signs of aging. It also boosts collagen production and accelerates your skin cell turnover.

Don’t Neglect the Skin Around Your Eyes

While a lot of products that contain the ingredients listed above are good for the skin around your eyes, you still need to prioritize your eye health separately. Your eyes communicate a lot about our health, so if they aren’t well, you won’t look well. Make sure to take precautionary steps, for instance, always wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, eating well, and purchasing eye treatments for dark circles as well as a suitable eye cream.

Stay Out of the Sun

Getting vitamin D from the sun is important to your skin’s health; however, you don’t want to overdo it. The best way to maintain your skin’s health is to avoid overexposure to the sun’s rays that can be harmful. If you do go outside, make sure you apply and reapply sunscreen every couple of hours, and make sure to give your skin a break in the shade every now and then. Note that most skin blemishes and age spots come from overexposure to the sun.

Drink Plenty of Water

We don’t have to sell you the benefits of water to your health. Hydration is key for healthy skin, especially when you exert yourself or spend a lot of time outdoors. You’ll notice the difference in your skin’s complexion if you drink a good chunk of water first thing in the morning. Make sure you’re drinking enough water for your weight.

Exercise

You’ll notice that after any physical activity, blood circulation has improved in your face. There’s a glow that tones your skin after working out which is why exercising can help with your appearance as well. Getting in a morning walk, a jog, or even some yoga can have a positive effect on your complexion.

Stick To a Mindful Diet

As mentioned throughout this article, eating right for good health is the be-all, end-all. When you pay attention to what you put into your body, it’ll show outwardly. A balanced diet must include plant-based foods, vegetables, and unsaturated fats. Foods like fatty fish such as salmon, carrots, apricots, spinach, tomatoes, berries, beans, and nuts all promote healthy skin.

As you can see, you don’t need to break the bank to get healthy-looking skin. With a better understanding of which ingredients work, you’ll find that the most vital products aren’t that expensive. What’s more is there are many lifestyle changes you can make to impact your skin, and you can always invest in at-home tools to help you get healthy and enhance your beauty. Start by learning what products are suitable for your skin, what kind of skin type you have, and then implement a daily routine to ensure you eat well, exercise, drink plenty of water, and, of course, establish a morning and nighttime routine with the right skincare products.
