Hypnotherapy For Kids And Teens: What You Should Know

benefits of hypnotherapy for kids

The world is so different now than when you were a kid. You can still vividly remember how you, as a teenager, would comply with everything your parents wanted. Because you know it’s for your good.

You cannot convince kids now that your words would benefit them because they’re so aware of everything happening because of the internet. The arrival of the internet to the people became a double-edged sword. Though it has given people much freedom, especially with literacy and the economy, it has dramatically influenced children’s behavior.

Based on a study published in August 2022, the internet, specifically social media, can be attributed to the many struggles children experience today, including anxiety, depression, and body image issues. Seeing your child grapple with these problems can be very distressing as a parent.

One popular intervention today is hypnotherapy. This post will discuss hypnotherapy’s benefits and risks and what you can expect if you plan to use it for your child. And once you’ve decided, you can study quantum healing hypnosis technique from experts to help your child cope better.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy wherein a person goes into a heightened awareness called trance or hypnotic state. Once in this state, a person can be more focused on their internal struggles and be more receptive to suggestions to handle their challenges. Recently, hypnotherapy has become a viable option for many kids and teenagers with physical and emotional issues, even though it’s commonly used to help adults. There are all sorts of different types of hypnotherapy including hypnosis for past life regression, which aims to take people back to their past and uncover the reason for their present issue that they have sought the therapy for.

What Can Hypnotherapy Help With?

Hypnotherapy can help children with various challenges, including:

  • Anxiety And Stress

Things around easily trigger many kids. Anxiety and stress can stem from many things, including phobias and social anxiety. They can manifest in various symptoms, such as panic, nervousness, rapid breathing, difficulty sleeping, lack of appetite, and difficulty concentrating. Often, these symptoms have a terrible impact on your child’s academic performance, health, and ability to forge relationships. Hypnotherapy can help your child achieve a state of deep relaxation to manage the symptoms and, in time, conquer their anxiety.

  • Bedwetting

Also known as enuresis. It’s a common challenge many kids, even teenagers, have. Your child’s inability to control their bladder can be troublesome for you and cause anxiety to kids. A child may feel withdrawn, especially on sleepover invitations, affecting their social life. Hypnotherapy can help your child overcome this challenge through guided visualization and positive affirmations.

  • Behavioral Issues

Some kids may be so defiant that they break the rules and don’t listen, even if it’s for their good. Hypnotherapy can help you teach them coping strategies and develop more positive habits.

  • Pain Management

Chronic pain can severely affect your child’s quality of life. They won’t be able to participate in social and sports activities and may prefer to hide in their bedrooms, resulting in depression. Chronic pains include juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and fibromyalgia. Hypnotherapy can help by teaching kids relaxation techniques and helping them focus their attention away from the pain so they can live better.

These challenges can affect your child’s ability to live normally. If not managed, they can lead to more complicated situations like depression and, on some occasions, self-harming.

How Does A Hypnotherapy Go?

A session of hypnotherapy with a qualified therapist usually begins with a consultation. The therapist will ask you about the child’s medical history, current concerns, and the goals they would like to achieve.

The consultation is vital to the session and will be your chance to ask any questions or clarifications. The child must want this for themselves; otherwise, the resistance might give unfavorable results.

The therapist will then begin the induction. Here is where they will guide the child into a deep state of relaxation. They can accomplish this through visualization techniques or progressive muscle relaxation.

Once the child is relaxed, the therapist will relay positive affirmations and suggestions. After that, they will help the child imagine themselves free from challenges. The last stage of hypnotherapy is to guide the child back to a state of wakefulness.

What Can You Expect After Each Session?

The experience of hypnotherapy varies from person to person. But many immediately feel these benefits:

  • Relaxation – Many felt deeply relaxed, a welcome relief, especially to those dealing with anxiety and stress.
  • Positive Mood – Those who participated in hypnotherapy feel more motivated after the session. They feel optimistic that they can conquer their goals.
  • Improved Sleep – Those who struggle with insomnia and sleep disorders fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.
  • Increased Self-Awareness – With hypnotherapy, you can easily access and better understand your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Because of this self-awareness, you don’t easily succumb to your thoughts and can overcome obstacles gracefully.
  • Reduced Pain – Those experiencing chronic pain may significantly reduce its intensity because of their ability to redirect their thoughts away from what they’re feeling.

These are just some immediate benefits your child may feel after a hypnotherapy session. If it became regular, they could permanently overcome their challenges and give you peace of mind.

However, remember that hypnotherapy is not a quick fix to your child’s problem, and you may also need to assess the other factors why they feel that way. Other factors, such as situations inside the home and school, relationships with family members and friends, and exposure to external influences like the internet and social media, may also be a part of it.

Are There Risks?

Hypnotherapy, especially if accomplished by a reputable and trained hypnotherapist, is generally considered safe since it’s non-invasive. However, just like any other therapy, there may be some potential risks and side effects, such as:

  • The creation of false memories
  • Emotional distress
  • Headache, dizziness, and nausea
  • Uncontrolled behavior

Thus, consulting an experienced hypnotherapist can prevent these rare risks and side effects.

Conclusion

If your child is struggling with a range of issues and you’re at your wit’s ends, not knowing what to do, you can consider hypnotherapy. It’s a non-invasive treatment option that could open many possibilities for your child. You can achieve many positive changes with a therapist’s support and guidance.
