Happy New Year fellow Moms out there! If you’re anything like me, you’re still wondering where this past year has gone and how you can get more time in your day so that 2018 won’t fly by so quickly!
But with only so many hours to work with, many of which are taken up by feeding, bathing, cleaning up after our kids – and the list can go on and on – how can we get anything else done?! These days, finishing any task can seem like a big feat!
My biggest tip for getting more things done is multitasking so that I can accomplish multiple things at once. But this isn’t necessarily the “multi-tasking” that you’re thinking of – where you try to do 2 or 3 things at one time (ie, cleaning the house and talking on the phone). In fact, studies have shown that multi-tasking, according to this definition, actually is counter-productive and you’ll most likely spend more of your time making things right in the future because you haven’t given them 100% of your attention and effort – or even worse, none of your tasks will be fully accomplished at all! Sound familiar?
What I mean when I say “multi-tasking” is creating something that accomplishes (or can be used for) multiple purposes. In my life this generally refers to my cooking and the meals I prepare, as well as the pots and dishes that I cook in and with. You also need the supportive conditions for multi-tasking, like cheap prepaid electricity. Organizing this before you get started means you don’t get side-tracked from your primary interest.
I’ll have to admit that a lot of my time goes into cooking and cleaning up the dishes, so if I can use my food processor to “shred” multiple vegetables, use the same measuring spoons to prepare a variety of baked goods, or use the roasted vegetables I made for several meals – and then just top them with different proteins, sauces, etc. – then I’ll not only save time now but in the future as well (whether that be for eating or cleaning purposes).
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see how a lot of my meals contain similar ingredients, but yet they are all different enough that I can call them something else altogether! Cooking this ways helps to ensure that I will always have a healthy and delicious dinner on the table – and my family won’t get bored eating the same foods – all while creating the least amount of mess, and in the quickest way as possible!
Eating clean and healthy by making it a point to cook and eat at home [more often] doesn’t have to be daunting! You just need to make little adjustments in your every day to make this more feasible – and for me, this way of “multi-tasking” is how I do it!
I’m looking forward to sharing many more tips with you this year to help you and your family live the healthiest – and most enjoyable – year yet!
