Taking care of yourself is so important and yet many of us forget how to do it – or simply just don’t make the time for it. Yes, reading about self-care, joining self-care programs, and working with therapists to make us feel good about ourselves are all great ideas. However, if we aren’t actually putting these things into practice, they aren’t doing much good, are they?
No matter what approach you choose, from trying to learn more about how to build your confidence with your smile to knowing which spa you should head to first, you need to learn how to take better care of yourself, every day! It’s time to remember that you need to be looked after and the first person you will ever need to look after you – is you. So, with this in mind, here are six things that you can do to take better care of yourself, starting with sleep…
1) Sleep
Yes, a big part of your self-care routine is to get more sleep. I know first-hand this is not always easy, but sleep has a massive effect on how you feel emotionally and physically. By ensuring that you have enough sleep, you will feel more energized and ready to take on your day. Sleep will reduce your stress and can help you feel more motivated as you take on all life has to offer!
2) Heal Your Gut
You need to heal your gut as your gut health will impact everything else in your life. Your wellbeing and feelings of vitality are going to improve when you have a healthier gut, giving you a much happier outlook.
3) Exercise
No, it’s not torture. Exercise is going to help you to improve your feelings of well-being. In fact, working out helps you both physically and mentally. And no, this doesn’t mean you need to do hours of cardio! You can work on weights, go to yoga, and even go dancing!
4) Eat well!
Self-care is a lot about knowing what will work for you. The food you eat is going to help you to feel and be healthier and happier on the inside, which in turn radiates to the outside! Some of the most amazing self-care foods include things like blueberries and green veggies. You shouldn’t be afraid to indulge every once in a while, but in general, you should eat to make your body feel good.
5) Say No
Every now and then, you need to look at how you set your own boundaries. Saying no occasionally will help you to do that.
6) Go away
A vacation to the beach or a relaxing trip is a great way to preserve your mental health. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest aspects of self-care that will change the way that you feel about yourself. You don’t have to spend too much money either, just a simple getaway may be all you need and is going to make a massive difference in how you reset yourself and feel.
