When most people think of raw foods, they think of meals filled with plain, uncooked fruits and vegetables and well, that’s pretty much it. However, there are many foods that can be enjoyed in a raw state, including everything from breakfast and “baked” goods, to desserts and decadent treats.

Not only are they delicious and filled with tons of good-for-you ingredients, they are also super convenient to eat on-the-go or to quickly munch on when you are in a hurry – which pretty much seems like always when you have little ones running around.
THE PRODUCT: Two Moms in the Raw is a family-owned gluten free, raw food manufacturer located in Boulder County, Colorado. What started as a natural path to wellness after Shari was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2004, the raw treats she began to make for herself became so popular with friends and family that she decided to share the goodness even further, getting help from her own mother, Marsha, along the way.

NUTRITION-WISE: Raw food (or living food) is food that has not been cooked or exposed to temperatures over 118*F. When food is heated above 118*F there is a risk that the enzymes essential for all the chemical processes in our bodies are damaged. This can make digestion harder and is said to limit the amount of nutrients our bodies are actually able to absorb.
For this reason, all of Two Moms in the Raw products have taken on this designation. In addition to not cooking their food, they also rinse, long soak and germinate most of their ingredients so that each bite is full of the maximum nutrition and enzymes necessary for your body. Furthermore, all of their products are also 100% organic, vegan, free of wheat, dairy, soy, and refined sugars, and are gluten free.
Containing such ingredients as Organic Agave, Certified Gluten-free Organic Oat Groats*, Organic Sunflower Seeds, Organic Buckwheat, Organic Pumpkin Seeds, Organic Cranberries, Organic Millet, Organic Apples, Organic Sesame Seeds, Organic Flax Seeds, Organic Pecans, Organic Almonds, Organic Cinnamon and Sea Salt (in the Cranberry Granola), and Organic Almonds, Organic Agave, Organic Cacao, Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder, Organic Vanilla Bean Powder and Sea Salt (in the Green Tea Vanilla Truffles), there is no lack of good for you ingredients in these products, including antioxidants, Omega fats, and a plethora of vitamins and minerals.
*You truly can’t go wrong with the ingredients found in any of Two Moms in the Raw products. Organic, vegan, and dairy, gluten, and refined-sugar free, I would happily feed these foods to my kids, no matter what their age. However, many of their products are a bit tough to chew, so having a pretty full set of teeth is a must – unless you want to soak the cereals or granola in some dairy-free milk for a while, which is what I used to do when my oldest didn’t have any molars yet.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Although I do consider myself a “health nut”, and know quite a few family members and friends who’d probably say the same, I would by no means say that I am a Raw Foodist or believe in only eating foods that have not been cooked. In fact, I believe that there are certain foods that are even better for you when they are heated a bit (and their cell walls have the chance to be broken down for better absorption of nutrients and easier digestion), including tomatoes and carrots.
However, adding a plethora of raw foods into your diet should not only be an occasional occurrence, but happen on a regular basis as there are many, many foods that are best presented in this way. And thanks to Two Moms in the Raw, you can find a whole line of tasty and convenient raw foods and snacks that won’t leave you feeling “too granola”.
My favorite product? Definitely their Cereal. Although you really can’t go wrong with Truffles either.
