NestFresh Eggs: So Fresh You Might As Well Have Pulled Them From the Nest Yourself

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Monday, April 7, 2014 Under: Food Reviews

I went a long time without eating eggs. I did eat egg whites and various egg-substitutes every now and again, but I always turned my nose up to the yolks and anything that included them.

Unfortunately the only excuse I have for this was my naivety and the thought that egg yolks are full of fat and cholesterol and therefore, will make you fat and unhealthy. Oh the joys of our teenage years...

Luckily I decided to educate myself (eventually going on to get my Master’s in Nutrition), and learned that eggs, if they are raised right, are one of the most healthy and nutritionally beneficial foods that we can eat. Just ask NestFresh Eggs – because they definitely don’t take the egg business lightly!

THE PRODUCT: NestFresh began in 1991 when a family from Colorado wanted to create a company that reflected its views on animal welfare and sustainability. NestFresh was built upon the principle that when businesses do the right thing we all benefit, from hens to humans. Thankfully, these fundamentals are still the basis of their business today and the reason that NestFresh has come to be such a success.

Quickly becoming Colorado’s favorite brand, NestFresh set out to make it possible for others across the country to enjoy the great taste of NestFresh cage free and organic eggs. As advocates of locally produced products, they were faced with the dilemma of how to provide humane products nationally without increasing their environmental impact by shipping eggs across the country. Sourcing eggs from regional farms was the perfect solution.

Today regional, family owned farms are used to supply farm fresh NestFresh cage-free eggs in the most sustainable manner possible. Each of these farms are certified cage-free by third party auditors committed to farm animal welfare to guarantee that they meet NetFresh’s strict standards of quality and humane animal treatment.

NUTRITION-WISE: All NestFresh Products are 100% Cage Free and third party certified. All of their hens are fed an all-vegetarian diet and are raised without the use of drugs, hormones, and antibiotics. Plus, all NestFresh products are packaged in recyclable and biodegradable cartons and come from happy, healthy hens.

With a wide variety of eggs to choose from, no matter what your concerns are about your eggs, or budget, NestFresh has you covered. Their selections include:

  • Non-GMO Free-Range: Eggs from hens fed vegetarian feed that meets Non-GMO Project standards.
  • Pasture-Raised: NestFresh Pasture Raised Eggs go beyond cage free with at least 25 square feet of pasture per hen.
  • Cage-Free Brown: NestFresh’s most popular eggs, these are the all-natural, farm fresh eggs you have come to expect.
  • Cage-Free White: Their white eggs come in a variety of packages and sizes to offer more choices.
  • Organic: In addition to being cage-free, the hens that produce NestFresh Certified Organic Eggs are free-roaming with outdoor access.
  • Omega-3: With 225 mg. of Omega-3 fatty acids, these eggs are the best choice for healthy heart, brain, and eye function.
  • Vitamin B Folate Fortified: These fortified eggs provide 6 times more Folid Acid and 3 times more B12 than a regular egg (perfect for moms-to-be!)
  • Medium Eggs: The same cage-free eggs you love in a medium size.
  • Jumbo Eggs: 100% cage-free eggs in the largest size available.

Moreover, NestFresh is the proud producer of Nature Fed Eggs, which can be found in Whole Foods Markets throughout the country.

FINAL THOUGHTS: As someone who doesn’t eat any dairy or meat, and is very particular about the fish I eat (must be sustainably caught, wild, etc.), eggs are one of those things that I can be a little hesitant about. And although I have changed my ways of thinking [that eggs = high cholesterol and unhealthy], I know that the drugs, hormones and antibiotics used can wreak havoc on your health and is not something I am willing to negotiate.

Thankfully I have found NestFresh! With their guarantee that all their products are drug, hormone and antibiotic free, as well as their commitment to sustainable agriculture, and their strict standards of quality and humane animal treatment, I know this is a brand I can trust. Plus, I love the fact that they have such a variety, from Cage-Free Brown and Organic, to Vitamin B Folate-Fortified (perfect for pregnant moms-to-be!), there truly is something for everyone – and every budget!
