Coconut Organics: Coconut Bacon that Even a Vegan Will Love

For MOMS, MOMS-TO-BE & BABIES 10 Months+*

THE COMPANY:
Coconut Organics was founded in Hawaii back in 2010 when two coconut fanatics came together to figure out how to share the power of this superfood with the world! From their first product, CocoBacon®, to their other coconut-based chips and foods, Coconut Organics is there for all of your coconut-loving needs.

THE PRODUCT:
Starting with their idea of turning coconut chips into vegan coconut bacon (CocoBacon®), and then expanding to include toasted organic coconut chips, raw chocolate organic coconut chips, and even coconut flour, sugar, and oil-blends, the coconut meat you find in Coconut Organics’ products comes from third-generation family organic coconut farms, and is always toasted – not fried!

The original CocoBacon® organic coconut bacon is a vegan bacon alternative made from toasted organic coconut chips that are spiced and flavored to have the smoky, savory and slightly sweet satisfaction of real bacon. Their other flavors, including toasted organic coconut chips and raw chocolate organic coconut chips, are also USDA Organic, high fiber, high energy, vegan, and gluten free. Moreover, Coconut Organics uses 100% raw organic cacao, organic coconut sugar, and Celtic Sea Salt® in their raw chocolate coconut chips, ensuring that all of their products are decadent, healthy and delicious!

Coconut Organics has also come out with some great Coconut Blends – ie, coconut oil with lots of yummy spices and flavors – as well as some other tasty coconut-based products, but they aren’t on their website yet, so we’ll have to add more info about those in a future review ;).

NUTRITION-WISE:
If you hadn’t already heard, coconut is one of the most nutrient-dense and versatile foods thanks to its nutmeat, milk, and oil. Not only do coconuts provide hydration, minerals, electrolytes, good fat, probiotics, and soluble fiber, they can also be used to make a variety of textiles, durable goods, and bio-fuels. In fact, the Pacific Islanders call the coconut palm “The Tree of Life,” believing that its fruit cures all illnesses.

However, there was a time when the medical community discouraged the consumption of coconut since it is high in saturated fat. Fortunately, research has shown that the saturated fats in coconut (medium-chain fatty acids) are different from what you might find in cheese or red meat (long-chain fatty acids). In fact, when eaten in the right amounts, these fatty acids go straight to the liver where they are processed right away – as opposed to being stored – and can actually help you LOSE weight! Now when it comes to Coconut Organics’ chips, they are all USDA Certified Organic, vegan, gluten free, and high in fiber, healthy fats and natural energy. Plus, they are naturally sweet with no artificial sugars added, and toasted, not deep-fried.

*Since Coconut Organics’ chips are quite crunchy, I would wait to feed them to my little until they have at least one set of molars (plus, the corners of the “chips” can be a bit sharp; although if “gummed” they do become soft very quickly). Moreover, the Bacon and chocolate flavors are slightly sweetened with coconut sugar, which I rather avoid until my child is around 18 months+.

With all that said, coconut does contain a very healthy amount of fats and fiber, and is, therefore, a great snack for you or your little ones.

WHERE TO BUY: Coconut Organics’ can conveniently be purchased through their Online Store.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
When I first heard of “bacon” flavored coconut chips, I’ve got to admit I was a bit hesitant. As someone who doesn’t eat meat, why the heck would I want something that tastes like bacon?! That is until I tried them and was instantly enamored with the sweet and smoky flavors that encapsulated these slightly toasted pieces of coconut.

Add to that Coconut Organics’ chocolate and toasted flavors, and I was in coconut heaven! I mean, you can eat these coconut chips straight out of the bag, sprinkle them on oatmeal or ice cream, or even add them to salads and baked goods and not only get a delicious treat, but know you are doing something healthy for yourself as well!

Now I have to admit that I once fell into the belief that coconuts – and the saturated fats that go along with them – are unhealthy and therefore should be avoided at all costs. Thankfully, I now know better and have come to consider them one of my favorite foods and something that I really can’t live without!

So whether you are a coconut lover, or just can’t get enough bacon, then you’ve got to try the chips by Coconut Organics’ and find out for yourself how amazing and versatile coconuts can be!
