REVIEW: Sahale Snacks Nut Blends - a Delicious Trail Mix Alternative

THE COMPANY: Sahale Snacks started when Edmond and Josh decided to take a hike up Mount Rainier in Washington State in August 2003. After a long day, the two realized that the trail mix and stale nuts they had brought to help replenish lost energy did little to satisfy their desire for something great tasting, nutritious and as adventurous as their travels. Because of this, they decided to come up with something themselves...

With backgrounds in media and technology, neither man had formal experience in the food industry, but both shared a love for good food and knew that by combining whole foods and exotic spices, they’d get delicious snacks that go “Beyond Ordinary”TM. So, they decided to create unique combinations of premium nuts, dried fruits, and exotic spices, each reflecting a beautiful location, culture or culinary tradition somewhere in the world.

And Sahale Snacks were born.

Named after Sahale Peak in Washington, a beautiful peak with a cool glacier and great views, “Sahale” is a Northwest Native American word that has a variety of derivations and meanings – like falcon, sacred, and high lofty place – and helps to define the company’s love of adventure and exploration.

THE PRODUCT: Crunchy and chewy with a flavorful glaze to help tie it all together, each variety of Sahale Nut Blends helps to give you the satisfying balance that is often hard to come by in your tradition trail mix. Using whole ingredients in their natural form — such as cashews, almonds, pecans, and pistachios — and combing them with naturally dried and preservative-free (unsulphured) fruits, Sahale Nut Blends are then finished with high quality ingredients like honey, lemongrass, balsamic vinegar, and pure ground Madagascar vanilla beans, giving each variety a unique taste that is deliciously addicting.

In flavors ranging from Pomegranate Vanilla Flavored Cashews to Balsamic Almonds, Sahale Nut Blends are also available in such varieties as Thai Cashews and Maple Pecans and can be purchased in 1.5 oz Grab & Go bags and their standard 4oz pouches.

NUTRITION-WISE: Using carefully selected nuts from the best growers and then dry roasting them to bring out their natural flavors, the fruits in Sahale Snacks are also of the utmost quality, naturally preserved with organic sugars or a combination of sugar and fruit juice concentrate. Moreover, the fruits are also sulfite-free (unlike the majority of other dried fruits). The herbs, spices, and seasonings are all real as well – no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives found here! Plus, Sahale Nut Blends are non-GMO verified and Certified Gluten-Free.

Filled with protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins and antioxidants, the nuts in Sahale Nut Blends have been shown to have powerful cholesterol-lowering effects. In fact, nuts don’t contain any trans-fats and are typically low in saturated fats and high in good-for-you polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Moreover, the nutrition in 1/3 cup of tree nuts is equivalent to 5 oz. of lean meat.

Containing around 120-150 calories per serving, 80-90 of which are from healthy fats, Sahale Nut Blends have around 3-5 grams of protein, 1-2 grams of fiber, and 5-7 grams of sugar, depending on the variety you choose.

*Sahale Nut Blends are [obviously] nut-based snacks, so I wouldn’t recommend them to any child who doesn’t have a full set of teeth (or at least pretty close to it). However, if your toddler is OK eating other nuts, then I’m sure he will love Sahale Snacks as well – mine sure does! With relatively little sugar and a decent amount of protein and fiber, this is a great way to get some extra nutrition into your kids. Especially since they will actually think they are getting a treat!

WHERE TO BUY: You can conveniently buy Sahale Nut Blends on their Online Store,, or to find the retail location that sells Sahale Snacks nearest you, please visit their Store Locator.

PRICE: Snacks are sold in bulk online, but Retail costs around $5.99 per 4oz bag.

FINAL THOUGHTS: With two kids and always being “on the run”, finding snacks that are not only healthy and satisfying but are truly delicious AND convenient are of the utmost importance. Finding ones that we can all enjoy together is even more of a plus!

And Sahale Nut Blends have definitely hit this one on the mark!

Basically like a spruced up trail mix, filled with ingredients that are all free from pesticides, GMOs, or any other nasty preservatives or artificial flavors or colors (like many of the other brands), Sahale Nut Blends really are uniquely delicious.

Sweet and spicy, tangy or salty, the exotic mix of fruits, nuts and spices are just the perfect combination of chewy and crunchy to keep your taste buds curious and your stomach satisfied. Not to mention the fact that they carry a healthy dose of nutrition which makes them even more appealing!
