JicaChips Review: Turning the Next Superfood into Crunchy, Yummy Chips

Finding a new way to eat and enjoy chips – superfood-style! JicaChips are not only deliciously crunchy, they are also available in 6 tasty flavors and are sure to curb your cravings for both sweet and savory.

For Moms, Moms-to-be & Toddlers 18 Months+*

Jicama, pronounced hee-ka-ma, is well on it’s way to becoming the next big superfood – and with the chips from Jica Chips, eating more of it is now easier, and tastier, than ever before! And while this ancient root vegetable has been part of Mexican and Central American diets for centuries, it’s just now starting to become popular here in the United States – although you’ve probably seen this potato-looking vegetable in your neighborhood stores too (but just didn’t know what the heck it was).

With a rough beige skin, the inside consists of a white, crunchy and juicy flesh that has a slightly sweet flavor resembling a cross between an apple and a potato. Ideal for people watching their carb intake, jicama is low glycemic and contains tons of fiber.

Simply made with real jicama slices, slightly coated with olive oil, various spices, and then baked – never fried – JicaChips have taken this ancient root vegetable and turned it into crunchy and delicious chips. Available in 6 flavors, including Sea Salt, Smoked BBQ, White Cheddar, Chili Lime, Cinnamon Sugar, and Spicy Soy Ginger, there’s no doubt that you will find multiple flavors that you can’t get enough of!

Jica Chips

Baked and never fried, JicaChips has turned this amazing root veggie into a delicious snack that is also great for you! Containing a mere 50% of the calories and carbs that you’ll find in a potato, jicama is low glycemic, contains 3x the fiber of oatmeal (per gram), and is a natural source of inulin (a prebiotic, which helps to maintain the "good" bacteria in your colon). Furthermore, jicama is packed with vitamin c, potassium, iron, folate, magnesium and manganese.

JicaChips also boast a pretty impressive Nutritional Label with each 25 chip serving [of every flavor except White Cheddar) containing: 100 calories, 5g of Fiber, Less than 2g of Fat and a whopping 4 servings of veggies.

JicaChips are also Gluten Free, non-GMO, Vegan (except for White Cheddar), Paleo, 100% All Natural (meaning no artificial ingredients, colors, flavors, or preservatives), Cholesterol* & Trans Fat Free and free from MSG.

Moreover, JicaChips and the Facility they are made in are free from: Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Seeds, Wheat, and Eggs. Their Spicy Soy Ginger flavor does contain Soy and White Cheddar JicaChips contain Dairy, but all the other flavors are free-from. Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) are used to segregate soy and dairy within the facility, but please, always use caution when dealing with severe food allergies.

I do want to mention that each bag of JicaChips contains 7 grams of sugar, which does seem like quite a bit when looking at chips. However, I can’t imagine eating an entire bag in one sitting. Plus, this is much less sugar than most nutritional bars contain anyway – with a lot more nutrients!

*JicaChips host a whole lot of reasons why they are great for both kids and adults alike. My only concern when giving them to young children is that they can be very crunchy – almost hard in spots – which of course isn’t conducive with a young child who is just learning to chew. Furthermore, having at least one set of molars is crucial in order to break down these chips, which is why I recommend waiting until you toddler is around 18 months or so to introduce them to JicaChips.

You can purchase JicaChips via their Online Store, or at select retailers nationwide.

Growing up, my Mom used to love putting jicama on our salads, so to me, it’s not an “unusual” vegetable. However, as I’ve grown, I’ve been humbled by the fact that there are so many who have never even heard of this root vegetable before! Super popular in Mexico, and often sprinkled with chili and lime, their really aren’t too many ways people have seemed to enjoy jicama, until recently that is.

Burgeoning as the next big superfood, I’ve seen everything from jicama noodles, to wraps, to… JicaChips!

Delicious and filling, JicaChips are not only super tasty, they are great for you! Containing 20% of your Daily Value in Fiber (5g) & up to 80% Less Fat (1.5g)* than leading potato chips (9g), these chips make a great afternoon snack, a tasty side to your sandwich, or even as a snack in your kid's lunchbox. For the same amount of calories as leading potato chips, you get 5 times the fiber & almost 3 times more chips! Plus, with all their flavors, you can fulfill your need for sweet, spicy and/or savory all while still getting that perfect crunch!

Looking for a healthy and tasty alternative to potato chips?! Then you should definitely check out JicaChips! Because it’s those small steps that make healthy living a lifestyle – so why not take one today?!
