THE COMPANY:
Coco Libre’s mission is to make coconut water beverages with a purpose. Whether you are looking for a quick and healthy way to hydrate, you want to add a light and sparkling twist to your typical coconut water experience, or you’re looking for a creamy and satisfying boost of energy, “Coco Libre brings you what you want and need, deliciously.”

At Coco Libre, they believe that by respecting what’s inside, they bring out the best in their ingredients, themselves and the people who reach for their products.

THE PRODUCTS:
Using Organically Certified coconuts from the Philippines, where they’re harvested at their nutritional peak, Coco Libre beverages are made from concentrate. This is because the Philippines is more than 8,000 miles away from California, where Coco Libre beverages are made. Shipping concentrated coconut water and then manufacturing in the U.S. is actually better for the planet, for food safety and for product quality.

Think about shipping the weight and bulk of unconcentrated coconut water across a third of the globe’s circumference. The carbon impact would be 3 times higher than their process. Furthermore, Coco Libre uses reverse osmosis filtration and low heat to preserve as much nutrition as possible – so you don’t have to worry what being “from concentrate” may mean for your health, or for the taste!

With a line of [typical] Organic Coconut Water, Coco Libre also has a Pineapple flavor, a Sparkling line, and newest of all, Coconut Water + Protein. With only 140 calories, 15g of milk protein from grass-fed cows, and no carrageenan, these protein shakes are great to tame hunger on-the-go, recover post-workout and to help you snack wisely.

NUTRITION-WISE:
Certified USDA Organic, non-GMO, Kosher, and gluten-free, corn-free and soy-free, all of Coco Libre’s beverages are flash pasteurized in a way that they can deliver nutritional integrity and fresh flavor without compromising food safety.

*Although there is no added sugar in Coco Libre’s coconut waters, there is quite a bit of “natural” sugars and in my opinion, young children don’t need extra sugar in their diets unless it comes directly from fruit, and even then, moderation is key. However, coconut water is a great hydrator so for those whose kids are running around in the hot summer heat, adding some coconut water in with their regular water can help replenish their electrolytes.

Also be aware that whey protein is used in Coco Libre’s protein drinks, so if you or your child is lactose intolerant, it is best to steer clear.

WHERE TO BUY:
You can purchase Coco Libre products directly from their website, on Vitacost (where you get $10 off your first $30 purchase)  , or to find the retail location nearest you, please visit their Store Locator.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
A couple years back, drinking coconut water was all the rage. Everywhere you looked there was a new brand and a new gimmick. But now that the hype has died down, coconut water companies are trying to find new ways to saturate the market.

And welcome Coconut Water + Protein by Coco Libre. With a silky and rich mouth feel (thanks to their recent reformulation of what used to be a chalky, chunky drink), Coco Libre’s Coconut Water + Protein is quickly becoming the drink of choice for athletes and Moms alike. Available in 4 yummy flavors including Vanilla, Chocolate, Almond and Coffee, I just wish they were made with plant-based protein so those who are lactose intolerant could enjoy them as well.

Thankfully Coco Libre does offer a variety of other Coconut-inspired beverages that we can all enjoy – and most definitely do – especially on these ridiculously hot days of summer.

Try any or all of Coco Libre’s coconut-based drinks today and see for yourself how delicious and refreshing coconut [anything] can be!
