Air-Fryer French-Fried Onions

Air-Fryer French-Fried Onions

Who doesn’t love a good fried onion, especially when it’s fried to perfection?! But with all that oil and grease… are bodies don’t necessarily love them the same way and is why I wanted to come up with a healthier alternative that tasted just as good!

So, step in the Air-Fryer French Fried Onions (although you can make them in your oven too)! Lightly battered, this dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan topping will make the whole family happy! And will top your Vegan Green Bean Casserole to perfection!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 medium Onion, halved and sliced (I used shallots instead, and love how they turned out!)
  • 1 cup Plain Unsweetened Almond Milk or other Nondairy Milk
  • ? cup Gluten-Free Flour
  • ¼ tsp. Ground Pepper
  • ¼ tsp. Salt
  • ¼ tsp. Smoked Paprika, optional
  • Canola or Olive Oil cooking spray

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat the air-fryer to 390°F (although you can also do these in the oven at 400 F, you’ll just have to cook them longer).
  2. Combine Onions and Almond Milk (or other milk) in a medium bowl.
  3. Let stand for 15 minutes.
  4. Drain (discard Milk) and return to the bowl.
  5. Sprinkle with Flour, Salt and Pepper and then toss to coat.
  6. Transfer to the air-fryer pan and generously coat with cooking spray.
  7. “Fry”, stirring once or twice, until tender and crisp, 5-7 minutes, or so.
  8. Top your Healthified Green Bean Casserole and enjoy!

NOTES:

To make ahead: The Air-Fryer Onions can stand at room temperature for up to 2 hours.
