On this Mother's Day: the Importance of Being a Mom

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Sunday, May 11, 2014 Under: Holidays

I’ve pretty much always been close with my Mom. From long road trips for my gymnastic meets, to rubbing my back I was sick in bed, my Mom was always there for me. And although I did go through a period where I thought I was “too cool” for the majority of her advice, I still took it to heart and would turn to her whenever I was feeling down or needed that extra reassurance.

However, I never truly understood the unconditional love that she had for me until I too became a Mom. From her carrying me in her stomach for 9 months, to going through labor, to being awake for endless hours each night just so she could gently rock me back to sleep, my Mom was there for me in the very beginning, loving me like only a Mother can. And she is still there for me to this very day – in other ways of course ;)

She also tried to raise me the very best way she knew how, and for that I am forever grateful. Because of her I learned to love vegetables, enjoy exercise, experiment in the kitchen, and the importance of a good night’s rest (among many other things of course) – 4 things that have helped shape not only some of my life’s passions, but also my career!

These things remind me of what an important role Moms play in who we are as people today – whether we want to be just like them, or learn from their mistakes and become even better. Either way, they have helped shape our future as not only individuals, but as Moms as well.

So as Moms now ourselves (or if you are planning on becoming one some day soon), don’t underestimate the power that you have. Know that your job as a Mom is the most important in the world, and that because of you, your child is going to grow up and be something great!

You may not always feel appreciated, and those late nights and temper-tantrums may really get under your skin, but just know that even if your baby can’t say it yet, he/she looks up to you like no one else ever will – because there is no love like a Mother to her child, or a child to their Mom.

Wishing you a very Happy Mother’s Day – you deserve it!
