Advice and Tips for Traveling with Breastmilk

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Monday, September 5, 2016, In : Traveling

and Traveling Abroad with Kids… while Pumping

I’m not going to sugar coat this, traveling can be stressful enough as it is, even when you don’t have two young children in tow. But try adding in the fact that you are traveling abroad and need to arrive 2+ hours earlier to the airport, you have to go through customs, there are time changes and currency exchanges, etc… and your head may feel like it’s going to explode.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that you are going t...

Healthy Tips for Planning a 1st Birthday Party: Kenzley Turns 1!

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Monday, July 18, 2016, In : Events

Lying in bed the night before Kenzley’s 1st Birthday – and party – I couldn’t help but think about the mile long list of things I still had to do, even though I’d been busily working all day, and week, for that matter. Planning a party really is a lot of work, and can be downright stressful. However, lying there I was also thinking how I wouldn’t change it for the world: the stress, the sleepless nights, the wondering if everything will be ready… it is all worth...

What is Kombucha? Is it Good For Me? Does it Have Side Effects?

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Monday, April 11, 2016, In : Health/Nutrition

Known as the “Immortal Health Elixir” by the Chinese and originating in the Far East around 2,000 years ago, until recently, kombucha had been known as a “hippy drink” that only “crunchy” people enjoy. However, thanks to clever marketing and people’s newfound love for all things healthy, kombucha has reentered the modern world as the “it” drink, making it to trendy restaurants, dinner parties, and even on tap at your local bar.

Though it is true that its po...

Picky Eaters, Part 2: 5 Ways to Introduce Healthier Foods to Kids

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Monday, March 28, 2016, In : Health/Nutrition

Ok, so after reading our last article [
you can read it here] you know how important it is to set a good ‘food’ example for your kids because they really do watch – and mimic – everything you do. Essentially, we gave you a whole list of “Don’ts” and ways you shouldn’t act around your kids in regards to eating because you WILL influence them, whether you intend to or not.

So now that you know how not to act, it’s time to give you a list of Do’s: things that you CAN do and s...

Part 1: Picky Eaters and 5 Things We Can Do About It

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Friday, February 19, 2016, In : Growth & Development

Self-fulfilling Prophecies
Eating healthy can be a very touchy subject, especially when it comes to feeding our kids. Whether we fall on the side that believes that sugar is the root-of-all-evil and should be avoided until age 18, or we give our toddler a cookie every time she does what we want, commenting on how and/or what another parent feeds their child[ren] can put everyone involved in a very uncomfortable position.

As a Nutritionist and someone who has personally seen t...

End of 2015 – Take Time for Yourself

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Thursday, December 31, 2015, In : Holidays

As 2015 comes to an end, I can barely wrap my head around where it has gone and how much as happened (and am sure many of you can say the same)! From the great things that have happened in my business, to the birth of my daughter Kenzley (my most cherished moment by far!), I am truly thankful for the relationships that have been created and the ones that have blossomed, for my friends and my family, and for all of the promise and hope for this upcoming year.

And although New Y...

A Quick and Easy Memorial Day Makeover

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Saturday, May 23, 2015, In : Holidays

Can you believe that Memorial Day is already here?! For most of us, that means the [un]official start to summer has begun! With that comes the pressure of summer attire and feeling like we need to look our best – thanks to the hot sun and lovely humidity many of us around the country get to experience.

And while this weekend is going to be abnormally wet and cool for much of the country, the daunting reality that summer and all of its anxieties will be here before we know ...

Good Intentions, but Way Off the Mark: the FDA vs. KIND Bars

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, In : Health/Nutrition

Many of you have probably heard, but the FDA has taken action against KIND Bars, saying that their labels of being "healthy" are false and misleading. Specifically, the FDA stated “Your products do not meet the requirements for use of the nutrient content claim ‘healthy’ on a food label.”

These sightings from the FDA are mainly due to KIND Snack’s high [saturated] fat content, as well as a few other mis-labelings, including using the '+' symbol to insinuate that ther...

Expo West 2015: What a Show!

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, In : Events

Wow, what a whirlwind! I can’t believe it’s almost been 2 weeks since Expo West – and I am still up to my neck in trying to catch up! (Being in San Diego with my 2 year old and family didn’t help much ☺). It’s all good though. The show was a mega success with more Exhibitors than ever before, more attendees (over 71,000!), and personally, more days in attendance. This was my first year going all 3 days and I, along with my staff, didn’t even cover ½ of it!

Expo West 2015 – It’s Almost Here!

Is it just me or does it seem like this year is already flying by!? I mean, it’s already March and I have to admit that I’m still in denial that I’m more than half way done with marinating baby #2 (due in July)! However, the fact that it is March also means that Spring is almost here (this winter sure has been brutal!), and that it’s almost time for Expo West 2015 – my favorite event of the year!

Death to the New Year’s Resolution

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Friday, January 2, 2015,

Happy New Year!  Another year has just begun, as has another list of our New Year’s Resolutions.  For the majority of us it’s all the same: eat better, lose weight, exercise more, bla-bla-bla.  But then, come mid-February (and often earlier than that), our must-do, “this year I’m going to stick with it” plans, fall by the wayside and we fall right back into our old routine of “I’ll workout tomorrow” and “I’m only going to eat this way today.”

Why is thi...

7 Benefits of Chia Seeds That Will Make you add it to Your Menu

Until fairly recently, chia seeds were one of those health foods that I didn’t really know what to do with. I knew they were nutritious and supposedly extremely versatile, but the whole idea of them seemed kind of daunting. Luckily, I decided to buy a bag and started to experiment with them. Now, they are part of my go-to breakfast, and an every day recipe staple.

As a great source of healthy omega-3 fats, fibe...

Babies’ First Smash Cake - Recipe

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Sunday, September 14, 2014, In : Recipes

As a parent, a babies’ first birthday is one of the biggest events in your new families’ life. And this isn’t because your child has turned one and is “expecting” some big extravaganza. Rather, it is because you as a parent have “survived” their first year and all the poop-filled diapers, spit-up, and sleepless nights that goes along with it.

Obviously your child is not going to remember what you did, or didn’t do, to mark this day, and most likely, whoever end...

Think Twice Before You Eat Rice - Arsenic in Your Food

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Sunday, June 29, 2014, In : Health/Nutrition

Although this article was originally written over 1 ½ years ago, I am still receiving many questions about this issue and so, wanted to republish it below:

In a new report published last week [September 19th, 2012], the concern over arsenic in rice is causing Americans to think twice before they eat rice. Originally fueled by a study back in January that found high arsenic levels in apple and grape juice, rice is the next product to be succumbed to this “high arsenic” lab...

On this Mother's Day: the Importance of Being a Mom

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Sunday, May 11, 2014, In : Holidays

I’ve pretty much always been close with my Mom. From long road trips for my gymnastic meets, to rubbing my back I was sick in bed, my Mom was always there for me. And although I did go through a period where I thought I was “too cool” for the majority of her advice, I still took it to heart and would turn to her whenever I was feeling down or needed that extra reassurance.

However, I never truly understood the unconditional love that she had for me until I too became a Mom. From her...

10 Ways to Slim Down Your Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

But with summer just around the corner and so many of us trying to get into “summer shape”, can we really afford an all out binge? Or even if we aren’t trying to lose a couple extra pounds, do we really want to feel like we are busting at...

Drinking Kombucha While Pregnant or Nursing

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Thursday, April 17, 2014, In : Health/Nutrition

ABOUT KOMBUCHA

There’s been a lot of hype over kombucha the last several years. Going from an all out super drink to one that was banned from store shelves, many have gotten confused over whether or not this stuff is really good for them, or if its all just fluff.

Dating back to the Asian cultures for over 2000+ years now, it’s safe to say that there is probably some truth behind the talk. I mean, Asians are some of the healthiest, longest-living people in the world ...

I wrote an article not too long ago about the foods we eat that we think are healthy, but are actually causing more harm than good [Eating Healthy? Your Body Doesn’t Think So].  Well, this article has received a ton of attention! There are so many products out there that we just don’t realize what they are made up of, or what their effects on our long term health might be. People are concerned and don’t know where to turn for the truth.

As a Mom, it is often a struggle to find a variety of quick and nutritious foods that our little ones will enjoy. It’s even harder to find ones that we as adults like as well. That’s why I came up with these protein-packed pancakes for my little guy – and his daddy. Filled with heart healthy oats, protein-enriched eggs, and antioxidant-rich berries, the sweetness of the banana and subtle hint of coconut makes these the perfect well-rounded meal for breakfast, or an...

Moms, Don’t Be Selfish and Take Some Time for You

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, In : fitness

As the New Year approaches, many of us begin to look at our lives and think about the things that we would like to improve over the next year - aka, our “New Year’s Resolutions.” From exercising more, to eating less, our “goals” often revolve around our weight and how we would like to weigh less, be more toned, etc.

Unfortunately, by February many of these resolutions turn more into a dream as our motivation begins to slide and our good - but often unrealistic - ...

Easy Tricks to Make Healthy Halloween Treats

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. It’s a great excuse to dress up, hang out with friends, decorate the house, and let that little ounce of “odd ball” come out that we are all trying to hide the rest of the 364 days of the year. Really, it’s all about being a kid again.

As most holidays are, Halloween is centered around food and treats, giving us all another reason to indulge. Yet, Halloween, more than any of the others, is all about the candy, making it even h...

Italy and Our Wild Adventure – Traveling Abroad with a Baby

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Sunday, October 20, 2013, In : Traveling

I never thought traveling abroad with a 10-month old was going to be easy. But I never expected it to be so tough either. However, when everyone you meet tells you how brave you are to have brought your baby overseas, you start to get the hint that maybe they know something you don’t…

Let me start off by saying that I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to go to Italy in the first place. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime and I am very glad that we (Kaston, my husband and...

The New World of Crawling… and the Baby-proofing Musts

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Thursday, August 15, 2013, In : Growth & Development

There are so many great milestones that happen within the first year of a child’s life. From the first smile and laugh, to the first time they sit up, to the first time they say “momma”, every week (and often every day!) seems to bring something new for you to add to your baby’s memory book.

However, as will quickly become apparent, with each new skill your child learns, you as a parent gain a new responsibility. This couldn’t be truer as when your child first begins to crawl.

How Pregnancy Changes Your Mindset

Posted by Jessica Boscarini on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, In : Pregnancy

Being pregnant is a funny concept. Not funny like “haha” funny, but more in an ironic sort-of a way. Being pregnant often changes our perspective on the importance of our health and makes us realize how every little thing we do is going to impact our unborn child. However, few of us actually act on our intuitions to start eating healthier and exercise on a more consistent basis and instead take these nine months as a “free for all”, eating whenever and whatever we feel like and often ...
