It is very common to struggle with losing weight after giving birth. Instead of keeping that weight on, commit to losing weight so you can be healthy enough to take care of your newborn. If you are interested, here are some tips for losing weight after pregnancy.

1) Breastfeed

There are many benefits of breastfeeding your newborn child, and as it turns out, a supplemental benefit is that it can help you lose weight. This is because breastfeeding has been shown to burn hundreds of calories daily. So if you have the desire and ability, consider breastfeeding not only for your baby’s benefit but also for its calorie-burning power. In fact, each ounce burns between 20-25 ounces! How crazy is that?!

2) Keep Track of Your Calories

If you are trying to lose weight, you should strive to keep track of the number of calories you consume each day. To lose weight, you need to go into a calorie deficit. Calculate how much that is and round out your diet with healthy nutrients that are low in calories but also help to nourish you through your day.

3) Meal Prep

Many people tend to give up on a healthy diet because of how much cooking is involved. That’s why meal prepping has become such a popular tactic. Pick a day or two during the week where you make a bunch of meals that will last you a few days. This will make it easier for your future self to stay on task, and will make long nights and early mornings much more manageable.

4) Exercise Regularly

Of course, you will also want to establish a workout routine if you want to lose weight. To make it more convenient for yourself, set up a home gym with some weight lifting equipment, and some cardio equipment too. This way, you can get in a quick workout when your baby is sleeping. Going on a walk while your baby is awake is another great way to sneak in some exercise while also getting a breath of fresh air for yourself – and with the added benefit of calming her down when nothing else seems to work.

5) Hydrate

A final tip for losing weight after pregnancy is to hydrate often. Drinking plenty of water is an excellent way to boost your metabolism, which is key to losing weight, and possesses the additional benefit of making you feel fuller and less likely to overeat.
